Prof. Cherie Devore
NSF Earth Science Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Cherie De Vore, Diné, is from Crownpoint, NM in eastern Navajo Nation. She received her Ph.D. in civil & environmental engineering at UNM under the mentorship of Professor Jose Cerrato. Part of her Ph.D. research integrated microscopy, spectroscopy, culturing and molecular biology, and aqueous chemistry to improve knowledge of interfacial processes that affect accumulation of arsenic in Schizachyrium scoparium (little bluestem) with endophytic fungi. Cherie was awarded an NSF Earth Science Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct research at Stanford to better understand fungal and biogeochemical mechanisms affecting the mobilization and bioavailability of metals in soils/plants from areas impacted by wildfires and mining.
