Graduate Student

Jay Yeam

Jay graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a B.A. in Organismal Biology and a focus in plant ecology. As an undergrad, he studied plant adaptations across environmental gradients in the Mooney lab at UCI working with Dr. Kailen Mooney and Jordan Croy. Jay joined the Peay lab as a post-bacc and eventually transitioned to a technician where he studied fungal population genetics and the way inter-guild fungal competition influences nutrient cycling. Now a PhD student, he is currently interested in using genomic approaches to understand the mechanisms underlying plant-microbe partnerships and how these partnerships are shaped by the environment.
