Prof. Julieta Alvarez Manjarrez

Julieta is a Mexican mycologist with experience working in tropical ecosystems. She has studied taxonomy and ecology of ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) since her bachelor degree. She completed her master's degree at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México where she studied the diversity of the ECMF and their hosts in the tropical dry forest of Chamela, Mexico. For her PhD thesis she studied the effects of hurricane disturbance on soil fungal communities and mycorrhizal networks. At Stanford she is working on the relationship between plant secondary metabolism and fungal communities in Amazonia.
